Every month, 1-2 members volunteer to organize and facilitate a meal at a restaurant in greater Boston or beyond. Here are recaps and photos of the events TasteBuds has hosted since its inception in August 2001.
January 2006
Tennessee's Real BBQ, Barbecue
341 Cochituate Road, Framingham, MA
Website: http://www.tennbbq.com/index.html
Organized by: Betty
We kicked off the year with some yummy BBQ food. As you BBQ fans may know, it's hard to find a good and cheap BBQ joint. This place may be in a strip mall, but it's been touted as having some of the best BBQ grub. Best of Boston awarded it "Best Barbecue" recently and it's been serving up award-winning food since 1992 in this original location.

Greetings from Morocco! In March, Tastebuds Boston hosted a special dining event at Tangierino, an interesting Moroccan restaurant in historic Charlestown, MA. We sampled delights ranging from lamb to tagine of wild salmon. Mmmm!

Bengal Cafe, Bangladeshi
2263 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA
Website: http://www.bengalcafe.com/
Organized by: Betty
TasteBuds Boston headed over to Bengal Café in March. The first and only Bangladeshi restaurant in Cambridge, MA, Bengal Café serves home-style Bangladeshi food, made from the freshest of ingredients and a unique, delicious blend of spices.
The spices used to flavor Bangladeshi dishes are similar to those used in Indian food, but are used in different combinations and amounts. Restaurant owner, Ali Imam, claims, "Most Bangladeshi food, however, isn't particularly fiery or spice-reliant . . . Nor does the cuisine incorporate heavy cream, as food from some regions of India does. It's lighter." Specialties include chili beef, chicken biryani, curries, and more! We sampled what Bengal Cafe has to offer by partaking in the delicious lunch buffet for only $7.99 per person (available from 12-3p everyday)!

In May, we tipped back some margaritas and enjoyed some enchiladas, burritos, etc. at the newest location of Acapulco's in Quincy! We were a week late to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, but we had a fiesta anyway.

Noodle Street, Pan-Asian, noodles
627 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, MA
Website: http://noodlestreet.com
Organized by: Betty
This month, we ventured to Noodle St.. Opened in 2005, this restaurant is a dream come true for those craving Asian noodle or rice dishes. From udon to pad thai to fried rice, this place has it all. If it's not on the menu, you can go to town and create your own rice or noodle combinations!
Located in the heart of BU, the prices cater to the student crowd, so for a couple of bucks, you get a nice hearty meal. Their desserts and bubble tea creations were wonderful and affordable accompaniments to our meals. After Noodle Street, we headed to Cornwall's Bar for some fun and games!
Attendees (12): Ed, Ada, Susan T., Brenda, Hank, Julie, Amit, Steve W., Vincent, Elaine + guest, and Betty

Clam Box, Seafood
246 High St, Ipswich, MA
Website: http://www.ipswichma.com/clambox/index.htm
Organized by: Betty
Ahhh, where did the summer go? Not to fret. The tastes of summer can easily be restored by taking a quick trip to the seafood shack that has been serving the finest in fried seafood for over 60 years. As its name reveals, the Clam Box in Ipswich (approx. 30 miles north of Boston) is best known for its fried clams, but other menu favorites such as onion rings, coleslaw, and lobster rolls have also received critical acclaim from food critics nationwide.
Not only is the food served in clam boxes, but the building itself is something that has been photographed and featured on television shows such as Chronicle. Shaped like an actual Clam Box, part of the restaurant's charm is in its design.
Attendees (5): Steve W., Rida, Hank, Nancy, and Betty
October 2006
November 2006
December 2006
UBurger, Fast Food
636 Beacon Street, Boston, MA
Website: N/A
Organized by: Betty
The last Tastebuds event of 2006 was at UBurger! UBurger recently opened up in Kenmore Sq. in the former space of Cafe Belo. While the decor is stainless steel and very basic, the burgers have been said to be reminiscent of the style of In-and-Out's burgers -- thin with shredded lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions. Quarter-pound patties (ground in-house) feature a plethora of other toppings if you desire, from fried jalapenos to multiple cheeses.
UBurger's fries are shoestring style and the onion rings are equally thin but yummy. Other menu offerings include Kayem all-beef hot dogs and marinated grilled-chicken sandwiches. Since this is located in the heart of B.U., the prices are reasonable and only slightly higher than local fast food joints.
Attendees (10): Nancy A. Lee, Eric, Cesar, Susan C., Samson, Rida, Steve W., Hank, Nancy G. Lee, and Betty
