Every month, 1-2 members volunteer to organize and facilitate a meal at a restaurant in greater Boston or beyond. Here are reviews, comments, and photos of the events TasteBuds has hosted since its inception in August 2001. Most of the commentaries were written by Betty, unless otherwise noted.

Changsho Restaurant, Chinese/dimsum buffet
1712 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA
Website: http://www.lotuscuisine.com/
Organized by: Betty
Gung Hay Fat Choy! Tastebuds Boston rang in the Year of the Pig a week early at one of the most popular Chinese restaurants in MA -- Changsho Restaurant. We enjoyed a generous weekend buffet that includesdappetizers, dimsum, sushi, entrees, and desserts as a precursor to the Lunar New Year. We were all stuffed at the end of the meal, but agreed that the free parking and convenient location was a nice change from the hustle and bustle of Chinatown.

April 2007
Vinny's at Night, Italian
76 Broadway, Somerville, MA
Website: N/A
Organized by: Kristin & Bryant
We had a couple of new faces join us for the April TasteBuds event. "Vinny's at Night opens every evening and serves the most sensational Sicilian specialties ever eaten in the back of a convenience store. And not surprisingly, a lot of first timers need a little convincing of the culinary delights that await...While the speak-easy style of Vinny's adds to the allure, the scrumptious seafood, meats, and pastas, keep customers coming back. Begin the meal with Shrimp bathed in a Grand Marnier sauce so delicious, you'll want to lick the plate. There are oversized entrees like Double Thick Pork Chops served with Sweet Peppers, and a giant bowl of Shellfish with Zesty Marinara."
Attendees (14): Kristin, Bryant, Diana, Keith, Lori, Tom, Susan, Joanne, Amit, Sanju, Alison, Betty, and two of Kristin's/Bryant's friends whose names I cannot recall!

Tastebuds kicked off summer with Indian from Tamarind Bay in Harvard Square. The Boston Phoenix named it Restaurant of the Year 2004 and says: 'At last, Indian food as good as the idea of Indian food, with some fusion worthy of the ideal of fusion, every dish distinct, and almost all wildly successful.'

YoMa Restaurant, Burmese
5 North Beacon Street, Allston, MA
Website: N/A
Organized by: Amit
Brand spankin' new, YoMa is an affordable and family-run establishment that is the only exclusively Burmese restaurant in New England. According to several reviews, YoMa cooks up authentic dishes influenced by flavors familiar to more well-known cuisines of the region. But this isn't standard run-of-the-mill stuff; YoMa's owner, Burmese-born Sai Kyaw, creates all his dishes from scratch using generations-old recipes that call for hand-ground spices which bring out distinct flavours unlike any other.

Since our last food crawl was so successful, TasteBuds embarked on their second multi-stop adventure with a Cheap Eats Food Crawl in Harvard Square. Our first stop was Grendel’s Den where all food is half price with $3 beverage purchase p.p. from 5- 7:30pm! Next, we jaunted over to the rustic yet yummy Mr. Bartley's Burger Cottage, located at 1246 Mass. Avenue. The group feasted on juicy burgers and their famous Raspberry Lime Rickeys and frappes. Finally, for dessert, we rolled over to John Harvard's Brew House for delights such as Butterscotch Bread Pudding and their extensive list of brews. By the end of our night, our tummies were full, but our wallets weren’t completely empty due to the food bargains throughout the night! Stay tuned for the next crawl . . .
